Southern Historical Conference 2003 There was then a one act play which was presented by the Col. Gustav Hoffmann Camp #1835 players which involved two Confederate soldiers, both of German extraction from New Braunfels, Texas, who were wondering homeward after surviving a devastating battle and who ran into a very adamant fraulein with a pistol who drove them off of her fathers farm in Fredericksburg. It was an entertaining presentation with a historical setting. James Jones and Darin Gautier were the two Confederate soldiers and Susan Gautier played the part of the assertive fraulein. The producer was Clint Stapleton. They plan to add more to the play by next year. The evening was capped off by a speech by Black conservative, Jesse Lee Peterson in connection with the importance of strengthening our families as an answer to the lack of character crisis we are suffering with our youth today. * * * VERY SERIOUS TOPICS! Karl Falster-Founder, Southern Historical Conference 2003 Federation of States - Schertz, Texas (suburb of San Antonio), September 30, 2003 - This was a day of conference and speakers with vendors tables available during the regular intermissions for the folks for browsing amongst mostly confederate related merchandise which was for sale. These vendors tables also served as meeting points for smaller groups of participants to discuss the serious events before us and to exchange names and addresses. Over 300 people gathered to hear the speakers. After the invocation and songs, the participants were treated to a Confederate color guard presentation of colors by the Texas Lone Star Greys and a rousing Bagpipe duo with drummer. After this, the keynote speaker, U.S. Congressman Ron Paul spoke on State's Rights and the Confederate Battle Flag. - - - More Ron Paul There was a break which allowed visits to the vendor's tables and opportunities for the participants to meet each other. The next speaker was John C. Perry, historian, who presented "Myth & Realities of American Slavery". Perry established clearly that the slavery issue was not the key issue of the War of Yankee Aggression, which was actually State's Rights vs Federal Centralized Tyranny. After the speech and questions and answers, we adjourned to the outdoors to behind the VFW Hall where the convention was being held to witness the firing of the 6 pounder cannon by the Texas Lonestar Greys, Camp#1953 followed by a lunch break. Below, are men from the Texas Lone Star Greys, SCV Camp #1953 commanded by John "Pat" Dawson. Also present was Don Lawrence, Camp Adjutant and artillery troops. After the firing demonstration, the crew buttons up the cannon and prepares to load it aboard its trailer to transport it home. * * * The afternoon session began with a speech by Jesse Lee Peterson on the "Financial Reparation to the Children of Former Slave's Issue." Reverend Peterson discussed the ridiculousness of this idea being pushed by radicals like Jesse Jackson. Rev. Peterson said that this amounts to a corporate rip off by these radicals and that the money goes into their organizations, not to the descendants of the slaves anyhow. Peterson believes that this continues to raise the hatred aspects rather than concentrating on building character in the Black youth by encouraging two parent families. After a break, the conference continued with a presentation by Professor Thomas E. Woods, Jr. (a founding director of the League of the South). Professor Woods speech was entitled: "Get a grip on it -The parties in this conflict were not merely abolitionists and slave-holders." Professor Woods spoke of cultural heritage, State's Rights and the ugly truth about Abraham Lincoln. H.K. Edgerton After a final break, the final speaker was presented. Here was a Black man who walked all the way from North Carolina to Austin, Texas (some 1,700 miles) wearing a Confederate Soldier's uniform and carrying a Confederate Battle Flag to protest the removal of the plaque of dedication in the Texas Supreme Court building with a quotation from Robert E. Lee. H. K. Edgerton is the Chairman of the Board of the Southern Legal Resource Center in North Carolina and he spoke of: "Black men in the Confederacy, why slaves fought for their South." - - - More H.K. With a song and prayer, the Conference was adjourned to prepare for the Ball that evening.
